Swatch & Quick Review: Revlon Colorstay quad "Delightful"

Here is another "gem" I found on clearance at my local Meijer. I use the term "gem" lightly, and sarcastically in this situation. This particular quad is being discontinued from the line, so if you happen to be interested in it, I'd get it while you can. As you can see I only paid $3.49 for this quad. There were a few other ones on clearance also, but I didn't pay attention to exactly which ones.

In a nutshell: This quad looks beautiful in the pan and when swatched. It's a nice neutral quad, with a subtly pop of peach. That being said: the color does not transfer to the eyelid AT ALL. It boggles my mind how this swatch so beautifully on my hand, but when applied to the eye - nothing. I tried a brush and the sponge tip applicator also. Still - nothing. Such a shame considering how pretty it looks. If you are looking for a sheer, subtle eye look, this is your man (or girl, which ever you prefer). If you are looking for pigmentation, save your hard earned cash. All the other Colorstay quads get rave reviews, and I see now why this one is being discontinued.

Left to right: white/ cream matte shade. Soft peach/pink satin shade. Yellowy tan satin shade. Chocolate brown demi matte shade.

What are your experiences with the Colorstay quads? Did I just pick a bad one or what??

I give this quad:

Nail Swatch: Revlon 'Girly'

You will have to excuse all the nail swatching lately, but I haven't done any in so long. I have so many cool nail polishes I want to show, so I'm trying to be better about taking pictures as I wear them.

This particular polish I first heard about on Nouveau Cheap blog, and had to go find it right away. This polish is called Girly, and it is part of Revlon's new collection called "Bubblegum Days & Urban Nights". I am not exactly sure when this collection first surfaced, but it had to have been very recently as I hadn't even heard of it before a few days ago.

Girly is a bubblegum pink jelly base, packed full of different sized glitter in a few different colors. The most prominent glitters colors I can detect are: silver, fuchsia & purple. Swatches below are 3 coats (it really was fine with 2 coats) and topped with Sally Hansen Insta-Dry top coat. Dry time is a big slow, but I did have fairly thick layers, so that does factor in a bit.

Have you seen this collection? Do you love this color as much as I do?

Nail Swatch: Revlon "Royal"

Hi Dolls!

I'm back again today with another nail polish post. I picked this beauty up on clearance at Meijer for $2.99! I hear this is also available in the CVS Beauty Clearance Sale, but I couldn't find any Revlon Top Speed polishes at my CVS. Like I posted before, I've found pretty much all the same items on clearance at CVS also on clearance at my local Meijer. I believe this polish is getting discontinued, which is a shame because this is a much loved polish in the beauty blogging community.

Revlon 'Royal' is a deep dark, yet bright, blue. It has almost a jelly look to it. Very pretty polish, and I received many compliments on it while out and about today. I applied 2 coats, and topped with Sally Hansen Insta-Dry top coat.

I am attempting to figure out better photo taking for the 'ole blog, so bear with me though trial and error.  This polish is much deeper than I could capture, but the pictures are pretty close to real life.

Christmas Gift Guide to Show Your Guy 2012!!

It's that time of year again... time for me to show you some of the awesome options out there for Christmas. I do this list so you can show your boyfriends/husbands exactly what you'd like (they need specifics girls!), but keep in mind you can also use this list as ideas for people you are shopping for also. Think Mom, Sister, Aunt, BFF, Teacher, etc.

There are WAY too many things on this list to have a picture of every single thing. Almost all product descriptions will be clickable links where you can go check it out. This list is composed of both drugstore and higher end products. I try to keep everyone's budget in mind when compiling this list. Also, let me say this: don't ask for mascara or foundation. I don't know why, it just seems too weird and personal to me. Besides, shade matching on ourselves it hard enough, don't even bother trying to have a guy do it LOL.

Little Walgreens Haulage

First of all, excuse my leg in the above picture. I didn't realize it was in there until after I uploaded. Oopsie! I took Cooper to school today, then little man and I headed off to do some shopping. First we went to Target...nothing peaked my interest. Shocker, I know. Next we went to TJMaxx, and although they had some 7 packs of Color Club nail polishes, I didn't buy any. I know, another shocker. So off we headed to Walgreens, with the hope of FINALLY finding the new Wet n Wild 8 pan palettes. I have been every where on the search for these, with no luck. Until today! I knew I should have just went to Walgreens first...

Keep reading for more info on what I bought, and the deals I got!

Top Nail Polish Picks for Fall!

First up, sorry guys but I do not have nail swatches for this posts, just bottle shots. I don't have time to swatch 15 polishes right meow. I have a video detailing this post, which I will link below if you wish to watch. :-) Also, don't forget to subscribe to my youtube channel while you are there and show some support. Thanks loves!

What are your favorite colors for Fall?

My Look: Green Is My New Neutral

For this look I used my new NYX Caviar & Bubbles palette. (This was previously called Champagne & Caviar, if you were confused about that, as I was.) I will post a picture below and number it just to make it easier to explain what went where, as the shades have no names.

To this super neutral eye, I added a green eyeliner for a pop of spunk. This was yesterdays eye look, and today I wore green on the eyes again for the 3rd day in a row. I'm really liking green lately. I just like how it plays against my brown eyes.

Mani Monday: China Glaze Dance Baby

When I purchased this polish a month or so ago, the lady at Sally's was wearing this color with China Glaze's Techno on top. I LOVED it, so that's why I picked this particular polish from the Electro Pop collection. I didn't however get Techno. Boo, sad. About 2 weeks ago I was poking around Meijer and saw this beautiful glitter, from Revlon, called Stunning. It seemed like it would do the job, and here we are!

This is 2 thick coats of China Glaze Dance Baby, and 1 coat (sort of placed with the brush) of Stunning. It's a little hard to get the holographic particles of Stunning to brush on to the nail, you have to strategically put them there. You know what I mean, Verne?

Enjoy!

Why So Many Nudes??!!

Yesterday I decided to take a little time for myself, and off I headed to the mall. That in itself just spells bad news for my wallet. Of course I ended up at Ulta (don't I always?) While pursuing the aisles I came upon the new Physicians Formula Nude Eyes Shimmer Strips. It was so cutely packaged, so pretty, I had to have it. So I did. When I got home I went to find it a home among my collection. As I'm doing so, I realized I just bought ANOTHER neutral palette. What the F*** is wrong with me??!!! I have so many nude, natural, neutral palettes and the like already. *Sigh* Houston.... I think we have a problem. Here's a look into my Hall of Shame.

Wet n Wild singles in Nutty & Brulee, Ulta Baked Duo in Natural Beauty, L'Oreal Hip Duo in Bustling, CoverGirl Tapestry Taupe, MAC Naked Lunch, MAC Satin Taupe, ELF duo in Butter Pecan, and Revlon Nude Slip.

Too Faced Natural Eye palette, NYX trio in Aloha/Mink/Deep Bronze, Wet n Wild Walking on Eggshells, Wet n Wild Vanity palette, Physicians Formula Nude Eyes palette, ELF quad in Butternut, Too Faced quad from the Beautiful Dreamer collection.

Urban Decay Naked palette, Urban Decay Naked 2, and Coastal Scents 88 Warm palette.

See what I mean? If I ever say to myself,  "I need another brown eye shadow", I hope I have enough sense to slap the shit out of myself. Does anyone else have an abundance of neutral eye shadows? Do I need to check into rehab? Heaven help me..... =D

A Ridiculous Collective Haul

I haven't done a haul post in SO long! It's crazy, and I hate when I do that because then my collective haul is huge. Then I look like a makeup hoarding nut LOL. I did get a lot of things on sale, or with coupons, or things like that. So I guess that makes me feel better about myself ;-)

NEW Pink Chiffon lotion $1

Face Products:

Wet n Wild 'Reserve Your Cabana' bronzer

*The WnW bronzer is a re-promote of an old favorite 'Acapulco Glow'. This is $3.99 and exclusive to Walgreens. It is much to light to be an actual bronzer. I use it as a face powder and love it, because it has a subtle sheen to it*

Revlon Colorstay Foundation review

I have not stopped hearing rave things about this foundation since I've been in the makeup blogging world. Although I LOVE my Dream Smooth Mousse, I decided to try it.
I have sensitive skin, so I was a little nervous paying $12.99 for this product, in case it broke me out terribly.  I was pleasantly surprised to find this did not cause any reactions to my skin.
This is a full coverage foundation, so it is a little heavy. I find in this winter weather, it can tend to look a little cakey on my face. It does have a SPF 15 in it, and I do not find that it makes the foundation look shiny, or anything like that. If it is not blended into the skin well enough, it will fall into fine lines and look a little odd. Without paying attention, I did pick up a bottle meant for dry skin, instead of oily/combo (which is what I need). I think this will look best on me in the summer, but I do like to use it now because of the full coverage.
I have found a method to avoid too much caking. Instead of applying directly with a brush, I first apply it with my fingers, then buff it in with the brush. I find that this works it into the skin much better. I use either a regular foundation brush, or a flat top kabuki (like the ELF brush, or a Sigma F80 if that's what you use). After using my fingers and a brush, sometimes I go over it with a cosmetic sponge to blend in any brush lines.
I do not top this foundation with a powder, because I do not feel it needs one. This foundation claims to last 16 hours, but I haven't worn it that long to corroborate this claim. It does wear very nicely on this skin through the day however, and I would consider this very long lasting. Defiantly through the work day with no problems.
This bottle doesn't come with a pump. You must either shake onto your finger, or shake it out on to  the back of your hand. A pump would make this a better product to me, but I can live without it. This foundation runs between $11 and $13, and is available at any drugstore, Walmart, Ulta etc.
Bottom Line: Would I repurchase this product? If need be, I would. I would however read the bottle better and get the right formula for my skin, LOL.

What do you think? Are you a Colorstay lover? Are you interested in trying this foundation?

It's A Nude Slip Thing

There is this Revlon single, Nude Slip, that I have been lemming for quite a few months now. However, I don't like the idea of spending over $4 for a drugstore single eye shadow. I was at my local Walgreens lately, and if you've been there you'd have noticed they have a LOT of stuff 75% off. Well, lo and behold, that little Revlon beauty was on sale for $2.59, with an extra dollar off at the register. Score!!

Nail Polish Haul - Glitters & Darks

I decided for this months haul post, I would just do nail polish. I hauled A LOT of nail polish in the last month or so. There are also some I mentioned in a previous post that I hadn't swatched yet, so I will include those. I'm starting to develop a serious nail polish problem. Walgreens gets me with those Sinful Colors 99 cents sales, and then Meijer had 50% off. What was supposed to do? lol I swatched all these on my nail wheels (See what my problem is coming to, nail wheels. Jeez)

GLITTERS

Wet n Wild - Believe Me, It's Real
This is a limited edition color from the Ice baby collection. This collection is exclusive to Walgreens, and is not available in all Walgreens either. It is a dense blue glitter, with purple chunk glitter in it.

Wet n Wild - Party of Five Glitters
This is from the Fast Dry line. I was super excited about this one at first, until I put it on. The glitter wants to separate from the jelly, and not stick to the nail. After you finally get some on, and decide to take it off: good luck! You will need an acetone soak, and probably some filing down too. Pain in the butt!

Sinful Colors - Nail Junkie
This caught my eye because it reminded me of Urban Decay's 24/7 liner in Junkie. It's a really pretty greenish teal jelly with teal chunky glitter.

Revlon - Facets of Fuchsia
This is a highly blogged about LE color from Revlon's Masquerade collection. I LOVE this one! It's a black jelly base with multi-sized fuchsia glitter.  It's so beautiful, but unfortunately another one that's a bitch to get off your nails. Acetone soak for sure!

BLACK/ GRAY/ SILVER

Wet n Wild - Black Creme
The name says it all. This is a black creme polish. application is nice, opaque in 1 coat.

Sinful Colors - What's Your Name?
This is a black polish with teal shimmer in it. It looks black in shade, but when this baby hits the light, it's so pretty! It takes at least 3 coats to be opaque. (I am a thin coat person, keep that in mind).

LA Girl - Silver Crackle
Obviously, this is silver crackle. Not only is it silver though, it is also packed with silver glitter. This was $3.99 at Rite- Aid.

Revlon - Carbonite
This is a new color, but yet I picked this gem up at Big Lots for $1.50! Score! This is supposedly a dupe for Chanel's Graphite. This is a one coat polish, which is awesome.

Sinful Colors - Slate
This is a slate gray color with a slight shimmer to it.

NYC - Sidewalkers
This is part of the New York Minute line (fast dry)  I like the brush on these, they are kinda wide, and flat. Make application very easy, and less messy. This is a soft gray cream.

Wet n Wild - Gray's Anatomy
This is also part of the fast Dry line. All the polishes in this line have names that are like a tv show, they make me laugh =) This color is very sheer, but it has almost a duochrome quality to it. It's very pretty, but even after 4 coats there is VNL. I want to love it, but I can't. Bummer =(

I apologize if these are not in the best of light, I did the best I could, weather doesn't always permit for good lighting. Grrr... stupid Michigan! lol
That's all for part one. I don't want these post to be so long, so I am splitting it up. I told you had A LOT of new polishes LOL. See you in the next post =)

Revlon Cream Quad Review

I picked up these Revlon quads because I've actually been wanting a MAC paintpot, but they are like $17 a piece. I've never owned a MAC paintpot, so I cannot compare them together, but these quads do the job I needed them to do. I found these at Walmart for $5 each, which is way better than $17! I like to apply this product with a brush, but I've used my ring finger and that works just as well. I just feel a brush blends the edges, to prevent creasing, without diffusing the color too much. I use these as an eye shadow base, and when using a coordinating eye shadow, they are amazing! I used the purple color and topped it with a very similar shadow and it was stunning!
Va Va Va Bloom
This quad has 2 purples in it: a darker wine type purple, and a vivid purple. The end color is a frosty pale pink, and the other is a frosted white. All 4 colors are shimmery. Out of the 2 quads I have, I like this one the best. I wear a lot of gold and purple eye shadows, so it just gets used more.

Seashells
This quad has all neutral colors in it, which will help my makeup transition into fall. The first color is a grayed olive green. The second and fourth are both pinky shades. The third is a white shade with a touch of gray tone in it. 3 of the colors are matte, and the last pink shade has a slight frost to it.

Bottom line: I would, and will, buy more of these quads. They do the job, the colors are great, and they are easily blendable  The only con is that you do not get as much product as you think you are getting.
