Review: NYC New York Color Individual Eyes Custom Compact

Hi my loves! How goes it?

I have to start off by saying I'm not a huge fan of the NYC IndividualEyes palettes. I used to have the one for brown eyes (Union Square) before I really got into makeup and understood things like: pigmentation, creasing, and lasting power. I do think these palettes are a good idea for beginners because they are pretty fool-proof, but they just don't do it for me.

You can see the whole line of compacts at the NYC New York Color website, and they are available in basically every drugstore around. These palettes retail for $4.99 each.

via NYC New York Color:
NYC New York Color's all-in-one compact gives you everything you need for a complete eye look: primer, illuminator, applicator and complementing shadows. With four vibrant colors designed for your eye color, you can create a look as individual as you are!

As stated; these palettes come with 4 shades: lid, crease, definer and brow. It also comes with a primer and illuminator, which are cream products. While in theory it's nice having an all-in-one compact, powder gets into the cream products. The cream products themselves are basically junk. They don't work. The primer creases like crazy. The shadows themselves are not overly powdery, but they lack in pigmentation. I received the compact in Dark Shadows, and I think the other palette I owned (Union Square) had better color payoff.

This particular palette, called Dark Shadows, is LE so I'm not sure when it came out or if it's even still available. This palette contains all shimmery shades. There is a white, silver, grey and a black.

These compacts are not a bad deal for what you get, but like I said before: they just don't turn my crank. I much prefer my Wet n Wild palettes. I do have a NYC duo called Brighton Peach that I absolutely love, but these compacts just aren't at the same level. Have you tried these before? What did you think about them?

My Look: Kim K's Smokey Eye

Hi loves!

I watched a video on youtube this morning of Kim Kardashian & her makeup artist doing her makeup and creating her smokey eye look. The MA used MAC's Contrast, and even though I have a similar color, I choose to go with another. I used the same technique however, and love how the eyes turned out. If you want to see exactly how to do this, search the youtube channel "MakeupCoutureTV" and you will see it.

My Look: Neutral Smokey Eye

Hi dolls! I've been using my new Nude'Tude palette for the last 2 days now, and I must say I am IN LOVE. Such a great palette. I love the color selection, and the products themselves are just impeccable. Today I tried my hand at a smokey eye look, so if you want to see what I did, keep reading!

Birthday Weekend: Look 1

Birthday weekend has started for me, whoo hoo! I hit the big 2-7 on Monday. Oops, I meant to say that I will be 25 again this year. LOL Tonight I am headed out to dinner with my sister, and tomorrow night I am out with the girls.
Today is also Drugstore Saturday, so I used my ELF 32 color palettes. I got both at Target for $4.50 a while back. I recently watched a youtube video by MakeupbyTiffanyD where she did a smokey purple eye, so I did my take on that. Products used are posted after the pics.

Smokey Neutral Look

Products Used:
- Medium shimmery goldish brown e/s
- Medium matte brown e/s
- Light colored shimmery e/s
- Dark grey or black e/s
- Brown and Black eyeliner pencils
- Eyelid primer
- Mascara
- Darker peach/ apricot blush
- Bronzer
- Nude lipstick and lip gloss

1) Apply eye primer all over, lashes to brow.
2) Apply shimmery brown shade to the lid. Pat it on, we want a lot of color.
3) Sweep matte brown onto crease and above, almost to brow bone but not quite. Don't blend it into your crease color.
4) Pop the light shimmery color onto the brow bone for a highlight. Blend crease color out with it also. We want it all uniform with no lines, and feathery looking. Stamp a small amount into the inner tear duct area.
5) Using the small eyeliner brush, apply the grey or black ONLY in the outer V area. This should be very light and feathery, but still give it a little dimension and smokiness.
6) Apply black eyeliner to upper lid. Top with the black shadow for staying power. Smudge it out a little with the shadow also, we are going for a little bit of a smokey eye.
7) Apply brown eyeliner to lower lashes. Connect with the black liner, but don't mix the 2 together. Top this with the matte brown shadow and smudge it out a little. Line your water line.
8) Curl lashes, apply mascara.
9) To finish the face, apply your bronzer. (Temples, cheekbones, jawline). Apply your blush to the apples of your cheeks.
10)To sort of tone down the drama, use a nude lipstick. I like "In The Buff" by L'Oreal. Top with a nude gloss, I like "Litchi Shine" by Sephora.

*** The Urban Decay Naked Palette would be great for this look. I don't own this, but if you do, I'm jealous! =)

Happy beautifying!!

Look of the Day - 8/3/11

I did this look tailored specifically for my brown eyes. However, it is a soft look that would work on almost everyone. I also have hooded eyes, so I kept the eye liner very thin so I don't make the lid appear any smaller. Please remember these are the colors that I have, any similar colors you own work just as well =) Enjoy!

Ulta "Silk" eye shadow
Ulta "Molten" eye shadow

Ulta "Verdigris" eye shadow
Ulta "Sage" eye shadow

Ulta light "Gold Dust" eye shadow (there is a light and dark in my palette)
Ulta "Fame" blush  (rosy color)
Lightest bronzer in my Ulta palette (any bronzer will do)
Chocolate eye liner
Ulta Lash Blow Out mascara
Ulta "Flesh" lip liner
Sephora "Hot Coral" lip gloss

1) Foundation and concealer. Nothing special here, do your daily routine. Also do your eye lids to prime them for shadow.
2) I start off using the light Gold Dust color. Pack it on all over the lid. This is a light shimmery color and it will help my hooded eyes appear larger.
3) I found the light Sage color to be TOO light, so I mixed a little of the Verdigris into the brush to darken it a little bit. Sweep the green all the way over the crease, inner to outer corners. Blend out harsh lines.
4) Taking a small, stiff dome brush, draw the Molten color onto your outer V area. Don't blend it out, keep it in the V shape. Sweep it under the first 1/3 of your lower lashes to connect the color together. It also gives it a soft smokey look.
5) Silk goes up onto your brow highlight. Sweep a little also into your inner tearduct area to make your eyes stand out.
6)Line upper and lower waterlines, filling in the gaps between your lashes. This makes your lashes appear fuller. Thinly line the upper lid.
7) Curl lashes and use mascara.
8)Bronze your face in the "3" motion discussed in the previous blog.
9) Blush the apples of the cheeks.
10) Thickly line your lips and fill them in with the lip gloss.

Happy beautifying!
